Real Academics was started in 2022, recognizing a need for a welcoming and supportive space for academics to write and for creators to be productive. 

Whether you are feeling anxious about your writing/work, want to become more productive, and/or desire to maintain your writing/work productivity, we have ideas for you! 

You can face your academic writing/work head on, and we are here to do this with you. You are not alone!

Experience

Dr. Huerta loves to write and discover things and to help others accomplish their writing and research goals. She has more than 100 publications and presentations focused on culturally and linguistically diverse students' education and learning. 

She has helped hundreds of individuals with their academic writing and research goals, created and presented dozens of academic writing workshops for university students and faculty, and has received numerous teaching awards. 

Personal. Dr. Maggie Huerta lives in South Florida with her husband, Dr. Tiberio Garza, and their rescue dog, Rocky, where she enjoys writing and learning more about ways to help others achieve their writing, research, and career/personal goals. She also enjoys taking walks in her tropical surroundings and taking pictures of anything that catches her eye in a unique way.

Dr. Tiberio Garza

Education and Training

Experience 

Dr. Garza has helped hundreds of students and colleagues navigate statistical analysis for their projects as well as coached them through their research processes. He has over 100 publications and presentations related to culturally and linguistically diverse individuals in the K-20 span of learning. 

As an evaluator, he has worked on dozens of federally funded grant project teams to achieve their individualized evaluation needs. Grant funders include the National Science Foundation, the Institute for Education Sciences, and the Nevada Department of Education.

Personal. Dr. Tiberio Garza lives in South Florida with his wife, Dr. Maggie Huerta, their rescue dog, Rocky, and enjoys spending time learning about the latest statistical and evaluation techniques. He also enjoys exploring South Florida's coastal areas and parks.

Meet the Support Team

Rebekah Huerta

Education

Rebekah received her Bachelors of Science in Visualization from the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University, with a focus on graphic design.

Experience 

Rebekah has experience working on social media platforms, digital art, and graphic design. She has been commissioned to make personalized and unique drawings of other people's dogs (if you are interested, let us know).

Personal 

Rebekah is from Texas and enjoys visiting different cities around the U.S. She loves animals, and enjoys taking her dogs to the park.

Rocky, The ChiweenieResident Pooch and Expert Security Guard

Background 

Hailing from the entertainment capital of the world, Rocky was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was quickly rescued from a bad living environment by the friends of the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society.

Breeding 

Rocky is a 23 pound "Chihuahua mix," (a big chihuahua!) with suspected Dachshund (hence, "Chiweenie" just because it's fun to say) and other (Papillon? Pomeranian? Australian Shepherd?). 

Personal 

Rocky enjoys eating, walking, and playing fetch. When he's not doing any of the above, he's actively guarding his owners' residence and inspiring them to be better humans.
